The girly and fun fabric used in this project is perfect for a first apartment or dorm room. Perfect for beginning crafters, this project is simple enough to be completed in only a couple of hours. These adorable pink ladybug coasters also make a great homemade gift idea or Etsy.com product.
For this project, you will need:
– 1/2 inch thick wood-crafting board
– 3 1/2 inch in diameter circle stencil
– Medium grit sandpaper
– Soft cloth
– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Watermelon
– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
– Decorative edge scissors
– Cloe’s Imagination Evening Light Pink Veranda Fabric (available online at Bug Fabric.com)
– Fabric pen
– Adhesive spray
– Craft roller
– Acrylic finishing spray
– Hot pink satin ribbon
Begin by placing a sheet of 1/2 inch thick wood-crafting board flat on your work area. Trace five 3 1/2 inch in diameter circles on the board using a pencil and circle stencil. With a jigsaw, cut the shapes out. Sand each wood shape with medium-grit sandpaper to smooth. Wipe away any dust from the wood with a soft cloth.
Spray each circle using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White and dry for half an hour. Paint both sides of each circle using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Watermelon. Keep adding coats of pink paint until you reach the desired hue. Allow the coasters to dry completely.
With a fabric pen, trace five 3 1/2 inch in diameter circles directly onto the Cloe’s Imagination Evening Light Pink Veranda Fabric. Cut out each circle with decorative edge scissors. Trim the circles so that they are just a bit smaller than the coaster boards themselves.
Spray the top of each coaster with a bit of adhesive spray. Press a fabric circle to the top of each coaster to adhere. Smooth with a craft roller to remove any wrinkles. Spray the entire project with an acrylic finishing spray and dry for several hours.
Stack the five coasters on top of each other. Cut a length of hot pink ribbon and tie the coasters together for an adorable gift presentation.
TIP: Add additional details to the ladybug coasters using an artist’s paintbrush and acrylic paint. Mix a bit of acrylic paint with a textile medium and add before spraying with an acrylic finishing spray. Consider words, phrases, or other such designs.
